Lagos Man Flogs 16 Year Old Son to Death for Stealing N1,200

Lagos police authorities have arrested a man for allegedly beating his son to death with a belt for stealing N1,200.
The man, Benson, received reports from residents in the area that his son, Bright, had stolen the money from them. Benson was enraged when he found the stolen N1,200 in his son’s pocket and proceeded to beat his son brutally, Punch reports.
Bright had reportedly been ill before the beating, and so a combination of the illness and the severe beating led to his death.
“My father was very angry on discovering the money in Bright’s pocket. He returned the money to the owners, and after they left, tied Bright’s hands with a rope. He then began to beat him with the iron end of his belt,” said Benson’s second son, Samuel.
Bright’s body has been deposited at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital Ikeja mortuary for autopsy.
The case is now being probed by the State Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba.

Teen Kills Parents With Knives for Taking iPod

A 16-year-old African-American 10th Grader Vincent Parker admitted in court that he killed his father and mother, for punishments such as taking away his iPod.
Parker killed his parents by hacking at them with knives and bashing them with a baseball bat a week before Christmas.
He told Police that he “just got mad and went off” and was fed up with what seemed like routine punishments for a teenager.
“I just remember getting mad. It’s all from my dad. All this stuff like my dad taking away my iPod and stuff”, Vincent said.
He attacked his mother first while getting out of the shower with a pepper spray, stabbed her in the eye, beat her in the face with a bat and crow bar. She later died in the bedroom.
When his father came home, he attacked him, but lived long to tell Police what happened.
Although he is still a teenager, he will be prosecuted as an adult.

Ex-Ecuador President Sentenced to 12 Years Imprisonment for Embezzlement

A court in Ecuador has ruled that former president Jamil Mahuad, will serve a 12-year jail sentence for embezzlement.
The ruling comes two days after a warrant for his arrest was issued by Interpol. He has been sentenced in absentia.
He was accused of commanding banks to close for many days and freezing the accounts of ordinary citizens to protect the interests of bankers affiliated with him, BBC reports.
The incident occurred in March 1999 during a critical economic crisis. At the time, Ecuador was struggling with a devalued currency, extremely high inflation, and paltry prices for oil, its primary export.
Mahuad, who had been in office for less than a year, fled to the United States in 2000 after a military coup.
“The crime committed by the accused caused huge social turmoil. Its consequences are still being felt by Ecuadorean society to this day,” said Judge Ximena Vintimilla in her ruling.
Mahuad has however denied the embezzlement allegations, stating that it is “political persecution.”

Monaco’s Prince Albert II & Princess Charlene Expecting Baby

PARIS (AP) — Princess Charlene of Monaco, who married Prince Albert II in 2011, has announced she is pregnant with the couple’s first baby.
The 36-year-old South African former Olympic swimmer and her husband issued a statement expressing their “immense joy” at the news.
The short statement says that the birth is expected before the end of the year. Although it does not elaborate, this implies that the style-conscious princess is at least three months pregnant.
The news is sure to please the palace and end recent tabloid media speculation about why Charlene, after nearly three years of marriage with 56-year-old Albert, had not yet provided an heir to the jet-set European principality. Britain’s Kate Middleton became pregnant with Prince George around a year and a half after she married Prince William in April, 2011.
Until the baby is born, the Monegasque heir remains Princess Caroline — Albert’s older sister — and then her eldest son, Andrea Casiraghi, who’s recently become a father.

'Old women still have sexual urges' - actress Taiwo Ajai-Lycett says

While promoting her stage play, Hear Word, where she plays a sexually active old woman, veteran actress Taiwo Ajai-Lycett, said old people still enjoy sex and some are quite sexually active.
"I am an old woman in the play and in real life. I am 73. The society doesn't think older women exist anymore, nobody thinks they feel anything. The people around old women never realize they are going through a turmoil, nobody cares about them. So what I am trying to portray is that it's not over until it is over. That an old woman is still alive in more ways than one, they still have sexual urges, people forget an old woman is human. An old woman enjoys her sexual life more when she no longer thinks about children's school fees, when the children have all gone to their husband's houses or in some cases the boys have married and it remains only the old woman and her husband. It never crosses our mind that these old parents can still get on whenever they like. Do you know that when an old man realizes he is free from child bearing, he becomes promiscuous and they are susceptible to all kinds of diseases. But the old woman is confined to a corner in the house, nobody thinks she is still actually active" she said
